Review: Under the Lights

Under the Lights Under the Lights by Abbi Glines
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another hit for Abbi Glines! I thoroughly enjoy her style of writing and have for a while. And with this new release, I have to say that I love that it has three points of view. I enjoyed the whole triangle aspect but felt that it was a bit too simple for the lead up to it. And as much as I do not want to, it kind of influence my opinion of this series.
Willa is sent away early on (before the book takes place) and comes back. As with any good story, it takes a while to find out what exactly she was sent away because and how it to be played out. She had feelings before she left for Brady, but never acted on them.
Brady was a part of the trio of best friends that were always together and had each other's backs no matter what. And he has always been put on a pedestal for Willa - just out of reach due to her family situation and now more so because of her time away.
Gunner is the rich boy whose own family has some deep issues and secrets going on. His family employs Willa's grandmother in their home - hence the connection. Gunner has never been the relationship guy but has always felt somewhat protective of Willa.
The chemistry is strong between Willa and Gunner but felt forced between Willa and Brady to me. And the parade of crazy women in Gunner and Brady's lives is slightly ridiculous to envision but as I understand it from my kiddos, not off track.
All in all another good story from Abbi Glines - even though at times it felt to be rushed like the first one.

Review: The Heretic's Daughter

The Heretic's Daughter The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I guess this was a bit different from the expectations I had for this one. I had envisioned like others that this one focused on the trials themselves but it truly did not. It was more a story about family dynamics. Not to say that you do not get the story about the trials but it is such a small part of this book in all honesty. A good book though overall.

Review: How to Hang a Witch

How to Hang a Witch How to Hang a Witch by Adriana Mather
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a great book!! I honestly love the topic of course being about Salem and the lineage of all the key people in the trials. And the adaptation of a story surrounding the descendants is one that is well thought out and executed. I particularly love that a relative of Cotton Mather actually wrote the book too. This rates right up there with Conversion for me as I truly enjoyed the mystery around the key points in the plot. And I did not see the ending at all. I audibly gasped when I read it. LOVE THIS ONE!! And looking forward to hopefully meeting the author at a YA event locally soon.

Review: Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I must say that I never read this in high school and thought that as I enjoy the film adaptations, I should indeed read this work. And I was not disappointed overall. I felt that at times it was a bit slow, but overall it met my expectations. And to think that this was written so long ago but still so enjoyable today.

Review: Show Me How

Show Me How Show Me How by Molly McAdams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

We all know how much I love Molly McAdams. And this book did not disappoint me in any way!

Charlie is just a mom trying to make the best out of her life to support her son. And then Deacon becomes a force in her life that she was not expecting. Just a great story and great characters that I can read about over and over again.

Review: Dancing Through Life: Steps of Courage and Conviction

Dancing Through Life: Steps of Courage and Conviction Dancing Through Life: Steps of Courage and Conviction by Candace Cameron Bure
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I was a bit overwhelmed by the religious aspect of this book. You cannot know anything about Candace Cameron Bure without knowing she has a strong religious fiber to her. But I felt this was very heavy handed. And honestly I felt that it was a bit of a wet towel on the fascination with this celebrity. I understand that we all need something to lean on in life - some use religion, while others use family, their job, less than appropriate items, etc. But when I feel that it is being shoved down my throat and pushed on me, I feel very put off and discouraged from continuing either exploring or learning.

Overall I would give this a 2 star rating - possibly a 2-1/2 star. But if it was a bit less preachy, I could have gone higher. But that really turned me off from reading and enjoying it.

Review: Under the Hood Boxed Set

Under the Hood Boxed Set Under the Hood Boxed Set by Sally Clements
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The reason I am rating this so low is that I was disappointed there was not more to the stories. I wanted to continue a bit with the characters as you just got connected to them and then it was over.

Crashed Out Crashed Out by Tessa Bailey
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I needed a hot read for my vacation and this truly delivered. It was a bit more Erotica than I had thought it would be, but I can skim past some of that. Some though I did not want to.
A great chemistry and backstory. Well written.

Definitely not for the YA/or timid NA reader

Review: Eleanor & Park

Eleanor & Park Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Honestly this is an amazing book with characters I could totally relate to. They reminded me so much of high school and all the people and relationships I had. It was so well written to. Exactly what I needed on my vacation.

Review: My Lady Jane

My Lady Jane My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Okay, so I had such high hopes from the reviews of this one. Honestly hoped I would like it more than I did. That being said it was so unique and different type of retelling it was an interesting idea. I never really buy into the shapeshifting storylines so this will not be one I re-read unfortunately.
Excellent characters and historical time period.

Review: Dream Maker: A Nashville Nights Novel

Dream Maker: A Nashville Nights Novel Dream Maker: A Nashville Nights Novel by Erin McCarthy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this book immensely. I liked the characters for the most part. I had wished that Avery was a bit more of a deep character. I felt connected to Shane as he had a truly charismatic pull to him. But Avery was not as invest-able for me. I felt like her backstory was rushed and cliche for the story line. Overall though that was acceptable as the overall story was endearing and enjoyable. I enjoyed the romance of a man afraid of commitment becoming totally invested in committing to the highest level.

Review: The Boyfriend Bet

The Boyfriend Bet The Boyfriend Bet by Chris Cannon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Love the book. I thought it would be a cheesy book about a silly bet just like all those teen movies from the 90s. But it had strong characters and a few twists and turns. It was sweet and a quick read. Well written and enjoyable. A great book to read on a hot night.

Review: Daring the Bad Boy

Daring the Bad Boy Daring the Bad Boy by Monica Murphy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this one. A true classic fun summer camp romantic book. Definitely a highlight for me to read after volunteering at a camp. I would recommend it to all to read - a great ending to summer!

Annie was a classic 16 year old who wants to change herself for the better. Jacob is the Bad Boy who truly wants to get on the straight and narrow but can't overcome his past. Together they help each other overcome things they never could alone. And I LOVED the epilogue.

Just an overall fun quick read that for me is a perfect end to summer.

Review: Defying Gravity

Defying Gravity Defying Gravity by Kendra C. Highley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked the alternating POV in this book but was annoyed by the nature of Zoey in this one. She was irritating at best. And that issue compiled with the miscommunication that constantly plagued their relationship, I became quickly frustrated.

Review: Red Queen

Red Queen Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS ONE???

I loved this one more than I ever thought. I should have read what other readers had to say versus what all the official reviewers said.

I loved all the characters because they were all so vivid and amazing in their own rights. Mare frustrating to me but she was such a vibrant character. She grew so much that it was wonderful to experience in the story. And Cal and Maven brought us Royal Drama at its best. Who doesn't love the Beloved Dead Queen/Favorite Son versus Questionable Replacement Queen/Second born son sagas?

And how many twists and turns can occur in a book without my head spinning? Well, no matter how many are in here, the many this one has make this an amazing adventure.

I cannot wait to read the continuation of the story.

Review: The Loose Ends List

The Loose Ends List The Loose Ends List by Carrie Firestone
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

FRUSTRATING BOOK!!!! Maddie (and I am very partial to that name I will have you know) is a frustrating character. SO FRUSTRATING!!
I have many issues with this book but honestly I could not find much positive to say about this book. Wish I could be more positive and more happy with this one.
A 1-1/2 star rating from me.
