Review: Future Investment: (Taboo Romance Series)

Future Investment: (Taboo Romance Series) Future Investment: (Taboo Romance Series) by Ali Parker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this book and the characters.

Elizabeth and Aiden are perfect for each other but the obstacles in their way make it difficult to have the HEA they both so desire. As well as keeping their amazing careers as Cardiologists.

I loved how the story did make it super easy to come to the happily ever after but made it more realistic. Great writing and character development.

Review: Up All Night Long: From Lust to Love

Up All Night Long: From Lust to Love Up All Night Long: From Lust to Love by Ali Parker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a Collection!!

This has so many amazing characters in it and they are such great stories that stick with you for a long time. I do not want to make this review a mile long with each review I have written for them so here is a little synopsis of my reviews:
Jaded, Second Chance Romance 1 - Kari and Jake! Amazing characters and relationships.
Forgotten Bodyguard, Forbidden Fruit 1 - Chloe and Ian! Amazing characters and they are relate-able. What a hot affair!
Billionaire Alpha 1 - Bethany and Damon! Passionate and hot couple. One that you want to keep reading into the wee hours of morning
Stage Left, Bright Lights Billionaire 1 - Ethan and Riley! Again amazing characters that are different yet are hot together and separate.
Blood Money, Bad Money 1 - Jon, Kate, and Marcus! By far my fave. Love the triangle and the intrigue and story throughout this series
Bonus: POWER - Elizabeth and Nate! Great characters that walk a fine line in attraction and fidelity.

Hope that makes you want to pick this box set up and it is an amazing grouping from an amazing author. (Yep have I told you this is AMAZING yet?)

Review: Power

Power Power by Ali Parker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a combo - Elizabeth and Nate!!

I was worried honestly that it would become one of those where the main character is a cheating bastard (sorry Language!). But this surprised me and made me happy in the end.

Elizabeth is a strong willed and minded person who has kept herself guarded for so long out of self preservation. Nate has been in a loveless marriage for so long that he has deluded himself into thinking that it was his only option in life. Their attraction to each other is palpable and real. But neither one wants to give in until a fateful day when one of their worlds is turned on it's end.

I love how it touches on the line but doesn't cross it. Amazing story.

Again, we all know how much I love Ali and her writing. Thanks Ali for this ARC - this review is all for you and totally my pleasure to write!

Review: Stage Left

Stage Left Stage Left by Ali Parker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ethan and Riley. Another fun couple that I want to know more about for sure! They are amazing on their own but together they are even better. I love Ali Parker (disclaimer right there at the beginning!)!!! And this is yet another wonderful addition to her growing library of books. I think I loved Riley's displeasure in Ethan and his public personna. And then she was torn with how he was with her and the pull that was there. And it is emotional and hot!!
I love a book that is written from both points of view. And this one was done so well. I really am sad though. I have wait how long until the next installment?!?! But wait I will and then I am sure I will devour another fantastic book from Ali Parker!
(I received this ARC from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.)

Cowboy Resurrection

He’s gonna need a longer rope…

Ball-busting business woman meets no-holds-barred cowboy…Visit the rodeo in COWBOY RESURRECTION, the second book in the Cowboy Cocktail series by Mia Hopkins...

Marketing hotshot Monica Kaur has put her big-city life on hold to help bail out her brother’s failing business. Now she’s got three months to plan and promote a rodeo, the first her tiny hometown has ever seen.

To ensure the rodeo’s success, Monica enlists a local hero, a rancher’s son who’s made a name for himself on the bull-riding circuit. Problem? She can’t stop daydreaming about the cocky bastard—and all the things she longs to do to him out behind the chutes.

Professional bullfighter Dean MacKinnon is home helping his family while his father fights cancer. Haunted by bad memories, jaded by love, Dean finds escape in a no-strings-attached go-round with brainy, sexy Monica, whose close-knit Sikh-American family would sooner run him out of town than see her with a notorious rodeo Romeo.

In private, Monica and Dean play as hard as they work. But as the rodeo draws near, that clean break they promised each other is getting more and more hung up in the rigging.

Warning: Contains rope play, motel nooners, a blue-eyed charmer with a taste for kink, and a brown-eyed princess with a taste for cowboys.

My review:

It was well written.  Let's be upfront with that one.  I have a few lately that are complete garbage when it came to the writing.  But Mia Hopkins can definitely write.  Now to the book and characters.  This one had a lot of hot chemistry!  And the characters were ones you really wanted to get to know.  The interactions made them believable and interesting.  A great followup to last year's "Cowboy Valentine".  A four star book for sure!

“Careful,” he said softly. With sure, swift movements, he hooked one arm around her waist and rested his other hand flat against her back, helping her gain her center of balance at once. She wavered a little bit, but his stance was solid, as though his legs were rooted in the earth like trees. Her skirt had ridden up just a little and she was straddling his thigh.

Sudden heat flared up wherever her body was touching his—her chest, her back, her waist, her hands. A powerful, greedy ache grabbed hold of her between her legs. She didn’t move.

Neither did he.

“Miss Kaur,” he whispered. “Are you all right?”

They were standing so close together that Monica could see the faint brown freckles on his cheeks, the crinkles that formed at the corners of his blue eyes when he smiled.

“Call me Monica,” she said.

“Monica,” he murmured, “are you all right?” His mouth, framed by that short, dark beard, was wide and luscious, as tempting to her as an oasis in the heat.

Monica wasn’t a fool. She’d watched videos of him in the ring. Dressed in his gear and cowboy hat, Dean was fast as a cat and completely fearless, putting himself between angry bulls and fallen riders again and again and again. In the most famous incident, a rider had gotten hung up in his rope and Dean had taken a hoof to the femur while cutting the man free. Dean was fearless.

His local legend went back much further. Back in high school, he’d been Oleander’s very own cowboy Casanova, a football player and weekend bullfighter more handsome than a movie star. Some of the women who’d known him in school had told her stories about him that had left her blushing. When he’d gotten married, they’d cried enough tears to fill the aqueduct. Mystery shrouded his eventual divorce. Monica couldn’t dig up the dirt even though she tried.

And there were dozens of fan sites dedicated to the hotness of Dean MacKinnon. From Dean’s Queens, a group of gay cowboys in San Francisco, to Jailbait No More, a small army of young women who showed up at his events wearing T-shirts that said Hey, Dean, I’m Finally 18. Dean MacKinnon lived in an all-you-can-eat buffet of willing sexual partners.

Up close, Monica saw the truth. Those fans weren’t wrong. The man was a bona-fide sex god.

He grinned as though he could read her mind. “Are you all right, princess?”

Temporary insanity was her only excuse. Months without sex, and her body was like a bull bucking in its chute. No brain. No logic. No words. All go.

“Don’t…call me that,” she whispered, staring at his mouth.

She leaned forward, tipped her head and, eyes open, pressed her lips against his.

See what people are saying about COWBOY RESURRECTION:

“Wow, wow, and wow…The love that blossoms between [the hero and heroine] is unrushed, genuine, true. *sigh* I loved this book from start to finish and highly recommend it, and not just for fans of western romance.”

—Goodreads review, 5/5 stars

“The writing is excellent, the emotions leap off the page, and the sex is downright earthy…This is a feel-good romance with a strong, career-minded heroine, a swoon-worthy working class hero, a great setting and lots of lovingly detailed sex.”

—Jill Sorenson, RITA-nominated author of romantic suspense

Check out the first book in The Cowboy Cocktail series, COWBOY VALENTINE!

Forget chocolate and flowers. This homegrown honey is all the sweetness he craves.

Small-town life is nothing but a waiting room for eighteen-year-old honor student Corazón Gomez. Work and school leave little time for love, but with a full-ride Ivy League scholarship and a one-way ticket out of the boondocks, who needs it?

The answer appears on Valentine’s Day when her old cowboy crush ambles into the ice cream parlor where she works, inviting her to go on a late-night ride in his truck. For the first time she wavers between staying on the straight and narrow, and going off-road with the handsome heartbreaker.

After four years working on ranches all over the country, Caleb MacKinnon is back on the family farm helping out his mom and brothers while his father fights cancer. The one bright spot: smart, funny, and wickedly sexy Cora.

From the start, they both know this blazing-hot love affair can’t last. But when autumn comes and Cora has to leave for the East Coast, Caleb must find a solution to keep himself—and his heart—from falling apart.

Warning: Contains hard, cherry-poppin’ sex in a pickup truck and a cowboy charmer who talks dirty in two languages.

Review: Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance

Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance Crazy, Stupid, Fauxmance by Shellee Roberts
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I thought that this was a cute concept. But it kind of fell short. It was truly predictable and kind of silly in actuality. I wanted to like Cabot and Mariely more, but they just seemed a tad ridiculous. In a world of fun characters and fun quirky romances, these characters just did not hit the mark for me.

Review: Hard as It Gets

Hard as It Gets Hard as It Gets by Laura Kaye
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nick and Becca are an interesting combination. I really liked the mystery surrounding her brother's disappearance and how their is a heck of a lot of backstory that you needed to be able to figure things out for the happily ever after to come about. They had heat and love and that is exactly what you want when it comes to a military/tattoo shop romance.

Review: The Royal We

The Royal We The Royal We by Heather Cocks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I rounded up on this one. I would give this one a 4 1/2 star rating. If you are as obsessed with the Royals as many of us are, I think you will enjoy this one as much as I did. It was really well written and quick paced. The characters are ones you instantly love dearly and they have a depth that is getting rarer to find these days. And did I mention the writing? Cause it is great (yeah I know I already said that but it a true gift to find well written books).

Jackson's Trust

Jackson's Trust_Duke (1)

New York Times bestselling author Violet Duke kicks off her sizzling-hot new Fourth Down series with a friends-to-lovers romance between a no-strings-attached sports analyst and the hottest damn tomboy he’s ever met.
It’s no secret that sports analyst Jackson Gray doesn’t do relationships. What is a secret, however, is the reason why. Jackson’s life is . . . complicated. And it doesn’t help that his current hands-off “friendship” is with the cute-as-hell new sideline reporter he’s assigned to train. Turns out, not only is the woman damn sweet, she also knows as much about football as he does. Like it or not though, Jackson has to remind himself that sex is the only thing he has to offer . . . until now. Leila Hart’s fast-growing friendship with Jackson is something she’d never risk, no matter how unbelievably seductive the reward. Becoming an NFL sportscaster has always been the goal, and thanks to Jackson’s fierce support and mentoring, it all finally seems within reach. Problem is, a girl can only take so much of that sexy-as-sin voice whispering dirty, filthy football stats in her ear before she loses all self-control. A workplace romance with Jackson is a disaster waiting to happen, especially for someone with big dreams . . . and secrets of her own. Advance praise for Jackson’s Trust “I totally love this hotter side of Violet Duke. You still get the same sweet, emotional story but with a little bit of extra sizzle. I liked the relationship between Jackson and Leila develop. They are passionate people who found their match - which a good romance will have.
I think there was a bit of excessive drama in this one.  Not overwhelmingly ridiculous but still enough was enough.
The writing was very good.  I love an author who can give you main characters you love as well as secondary ones that stick with you.
Overall it was a good book with good characters.  Can't wait to see what else this author has to give us!

Review: Falling for Home

Falling for Home Falling for Home by Jody Holford
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I would give this one a 3-1/2 star rating. The characters were very real - people you knew and grew up with it felt. I liked how they were instantly connected due to their history growing up together. I also liked the conflict they felt amongst the townsfolk and their family in the quickness they became a couple and about Lucy's inability to stay in one place. I enjoyed the behind the scenes mystery of the person/people causing trouble for the law. It was a fun side story.

Review: A Bad Bit Nice

A Bad Bit Nice A Bad Bit Nice by Josie Kerr
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I would give this one a 2-1/2 star rating honestly. I did not like the multiple POV in a chapter style writing. It made it very confusing at times. I also did not enjoy the characters as much as I would have hoped I would. I did like that these were not super young adults - people who are more toward my own age is a nice change of pace.

Review: Rome

Rome Rome by Jay Crownover
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have been listening to many of these Marked Men books. I have re-started this particular book now twice as the reader for Cora irritated me. But after listening Rule and hearing how she was described, I realized that it totally worked for her.
This was another amazing installment. I really love the Men in this series. Each one of them are so different yet so much alike. I also feel that if they were real, I would wait to be able to get a tattoo from one of them months if I had to.
Rome is a complicated character that has a sense of family that makes a girl go weak in the knees. He has a lot of issues related to his time in the military and his lack of trust in people at times.
Cora is amazing to me. She is a caregiver by nature and wants to help everyone be able to solve their own issues but still care for them as best as she can. Her love of Rome is easy to understand and she is so protective of those she loves.
They make crazy good sense together and makes this series that much better by being a part of it.
A true 4 star book for me!

America's First Daughter - Quote 1   About AMERICA’S FIRST DAUGHTER: In a compelling, richly researched novel that draws from thousands of letters and original sources, bestselling authors Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie tell the fascinating, untold story of Thomas Jefferson’s eldest daughter, Martha “Patsy” Jefferson Randolph—a woman who kept the secrets of our most enigmatic founding father and shaped an American legacy. From her earliest days, Patsy Jefferson knows that though her father loves his family dearly, his devotion to his country runs deeper still. As Thomas Jefferson’s oldest daughter, she becomes his helpmate, protector, and constant companion in the wake of her mother’s death, traveling with him when he becomes American minister to France. It is in Paris, at the glittering court and among the first tumultuous days of revolution, that fifteen-year-old Patsy learns about her father’s troubling liaison with Sally Hemings, a slave girl her own age. Meanwhile, Patsy has fallen in love—with her father’s protégé William Short, a staunch abolitionist and ambitious diplomat. Torn between love, principles, and the bonds of family, Patsy questions whether she can choose a life as William’s wife and still be a devoted daughter. Her choice will follow her in the years to come, to Virginia farmland, Monticello, and even the White House. And as scandal, tragedy, and poverty threaten her family, Patsy must decide how much she will sacrifice to protect her father's reputation, in the process defining not just his political legacy, but that of the nation he founded.     America's First Daughter - Tour Quote 2

My Review:

It has been a while since I read a good historical novel.  This is definitely one of them.  I would give this one a 4 star rating.  I felt it was a bit slow at times.  But overall it was a very interesting story.  And it comes out at a time when many are thinking about politics and such.  I was very lucky to be able to be given an ARC to review honestly.  It was a very detailed and Patsy was a complicated person.  The writing was great and it was a very well done book.
