Review: Every Last Breath

Every Last Breath Every Last Breath by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What to say? It is really over!! And I just wanted to live with this cast of characters forever. I want to be Stacey!!!

Ok so I refuse to give away spoilers. I really don't like them. But I also am going to have to be truly generic so I give nothing away. Sorry - it stinks I know.

Pros: Layla is a badass! I mean it. She pretty much takes that initial I am a high school girl thing and throws it out the window here. And yet she is vulnerable and sweet too. All around amazing character.

Roth - ok, we all know he is super HOT and he does not disappoint in this one. And I will not lie - he makes me want to get yet another tattoo!

Zayne - not everyone is Team Zayne I know but he is hot in his own right. And he gets extra points for reasons you will agree I am sure once you read this one.

Cons: Umm the series is over!

The Lillin is still around.

Umm the series is really over now!

So I gave this one a 5 star rating as it is a fast paced book with amazing characters, a killer (HA!) plot and amazing relationship/connections.
If I could live in this world, I definitely would!

Now, let the "I finished another Jennifer Armentrout book and no other can compare!" funk begin!!!

Just a Kiss

Just a Kiss Synopsis:
Three friends,
One Wine Country Villa
Six Santino Brothers
And lots of wine…

Reeling from the loss of her mother, Sarah Dupont catches her fiancé doing the nasty on top of her pastry table at their San Francisco Bakery.
Devastated, she calls her best friend, lifestyle reporter, Danica Vargas. Danica convinces Sarah to start fresh, and rent a room with her at an historic mansion in Sonoma Valley.
With two roommates who act like the sisters she never had and a feisty landlord to stand in as the grandmother she always wanted, Sarah’s opens a café on the Sonoma Plaza. Her life changes the moment the little bell on the door rings and the notoriously sexy actor Jamie Santino, swaggers in.
Jamie, one of the six Santino Brothers, of Napa Valley Winery fame, needs baking lessons for his new movie and Sarah is just the woman to teach him. Wine flows, their love affair heats up and a tempestuous femme fatale enters the scene.
How can Sarah trust that Jamie isn’t acting when everything he says seems too good to be true?
EXCERPT:

Help me get a grip, I’m melting into her eyes… He took a beat to compose himself.
“What would you like me to do Sarah?” he asked.
She moved closer and parted her lips.
I’m going, going…
“I think I’d like you to kiss me now.”
Gone…
On tiptoe and cradling the back of his head, she guided him to her.
No one could surprise him in the love department except Sarah Dupont. He skimmed his hands over the outline of her soft curves and pulled her in tighter. She tasted like cabernet and cake, and he closed his eyes so he could savor her lips.
A low moan escaped her, and hit him in the gut. He didn’t know where to start with his hands and moved them over the sexy arch of her back and pressed her closer to him.
“The tree,” he said quickly, not wanting to be away from her mouth. “Does the tree hurt your back?”
“Don’t stop kissing me,” she said. The need in Sarah’s voice surprised him, making him strain against his jeans. He fought to slow down, to wait, to catch a breath before he lost it.
He swept his lips across her cheek. “Sarah.” When he reached her earlobe, he nipped. She felt luscious and pliable in his arms. He almost couldn't handle listening to her quick breaths and the feeling of her heart pumping so fast against him.
“Sarah.” He nuzzled behind her ear, kissing and sucking her neck. “Don’t make me stop.”
She groaned between breaths.

He felt drunk, but he’d had only had a few glasses of wine. Touching, kissing and listening to her whimpers made him feel like he could tip over any minute and bury himself into her.

EVERY LAST BREATH Synopsis: Some loves will last ‘til your dying breath Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust. Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction. Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

EVERY LAST BREATH Excerpt :

Roth cleared his throat. “Shortie, look…look at your hand.”
Look at my hand? Why in the world would he be asking me to do that in the midst of all the cray?
“Do it,” he said quietly and too gently.
The dread exploded in my gut like buckshot, and my gaze dropped to my left hand. I expected to see the weird marbling of black and gray, a mixture of the demon and Warden that existed inside of me and a combination I’d become almost familiar with by now. My nails had lengthened and sharpened, and I could tell they were hard enough to cut through steel, as hard as my skin, but my skin…it was still pink. Really pink.
“What the…?” My gaze traveled to my other hand. It was the same. Just pink. My wings twitched, reminding me that I had shifted.
Zayne swallowed. “Your…your wings…”
“What about my wings?” I almost screeched, reaching be‑ hind me. “Are they broken? Did they not come out—” The tips of my fingers came into contact with something as soft as silk. My hand jerked back. “What…”
Stacey’s watery eyes had doubled in size. “Um, Layla, there’s a mirror above the fireplace. I think you need to look in it.”
I met Roth’s gaze for a second before I spun around and all but ran to the fireplace I was sure Stacey’s mom had never used. Clutching the white mantel, I stared at my reflection.
I looked normal, like I did before I shifted…like I was going to class or something. My eyes were the palest shade of gray, a watered-down blue. My hair was so blond it was almost white, and a mess of waves that went in every direction like usual. I looked like a colorless china doll, which was nothing new, except for the two fangs jutting out of my mouth. I wouldn’t show them off at school, but that wasn’t what caught my attention and held it.
It was my wings.
They were large, not as massive as Zayne’s or Roth’s, and normally they were almost leathery in texture, but now they were black…black and feathered. Like legit feathered. That soft, silky thing I’d felt? It had been tiny feathers.
Feathers.
“Oh my God,” I whispered at my reflection. “I have feathers.”
“Those are definitely feathered wings,” Roth commented.
I whipped around, knocking over a lamp with my feathered right wing. “I have feathers on my wings!”
Roth cocked his head to the side. “Yeah, you do.”
He was absolutely no help, so I turned to Zayne. “Why do I have feathers on my wings?”
Zayne shook his head slowly. “I don’t know, Layla. I’ve never seen anything like this.”
“Liar,” hissed Roth, shooting him a dark look. “You’ve seen that before. So have I.”

MY REVIEW:

I enjoyed this book.  That being said it started a bit off for me as I kept re-reading it because I felt like I was dropped into a story with no warning and no lead up.  I know some books start that way, but then they backtrack.  I never felt that this backtracked like I wanted it to.  (And of course it didn't because I did not write it.)  But seriously, the characters were flawed and so very much in love.  All said and done, I would give this one a solid 3-1/2 star rating.

Review: Asa

Asa Asa by Jay Crownover
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book is a solid 3 star book for me.

At times, the relationship between Asa and Royal felt very forced and drawn out to a painful point. I liked the fact that Asa was really a good guy deep down but knew he had such a troubled past that perhaps she would not be able to get over that. And as for the big secret, that was predictable and random. It could have been erased from the story and you would still have a 3 star book leftover.

Review: BloodMarked

BloodMarked BloodMarked by Lu J Whitley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was given this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I enjoyed this one as I do love a good paranormal romance. I would give this one a 3-1/2 star honestly.
I enjoyed the well-developed characters and storyline. I feel this writer has a potentially favorable career in writing. I particularly Greta and Jaromir's relationship - complex yet simple. Loved it!
Definitely worth reading if you like paranormal romance.

Review: Sometimes It Lasts

Sometimes It Lasts Sometimes It Lasts by Abbi Glines
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

I am sure my followers by now know that I am an Abbi Glines fan. I loved this continuation of Cage and Eva's story. And even moreso, I enjoyed how all my other fave characters are there but not in an overpoering way. I also, love the connection and hotness of these characters.

I have a concern though (as much as I loved this book). Are we exposing our teens to too much blatant sex without concern? To me this is a New Adult book, not a Young Adult book. The definition of New Adult is that it older YA in that 18-30 year old age frame. With the amount of described sex (not hinted to) in here, I would definitely classify it as New Adult.

Ok, I am off my soapbox now. Again, I love Abbi Glines' writing and gave this one a 4 star rating. I will just be discussing this matter with the library board here in town soon.

Review: Playing with Fire

Playing with Fire Playing with Fire by Kate Meader
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Alex and Eli. Hmm, at times I liked them together and at times I thought it was beyond cheesy. I mean, every firefighter story is cliche to me. Perhaps I am jaded due to my views on it, but this one was not as cliche as others. I loved that it was set in Chicago. I also loved the chemistry they had. But overall, I found this an ok book for summer fun.

The Flame

I’m soaring.

After years of hard work and determination, I am exactly where I want to be in life. As the top ranked Freestyle Motocross rider in the world, I have more money than I could ever dream of spending and gorgeous women throwing themselves at me in every city I land. I have everything I could ever want.

Everything except her.

While in Breckenridge for my best friend’s wedding, I was introduced to Dakota Shavell, a friend of the bride-to-be, and from the moment our blue gazes met, sparks flew.

What I initially intended to be a single steamy night together turned into a scorching two week road trip to New Orleans with a sassy-mouthed blonde. Being between her legs gave me a bigger adrenaline rush than I’d ever gotten from flying through the air while straddling a bike.

It was supposed to just be fun, a good time. I planned to walk away unchanged.

But it was more. Feelings I never intended to have got involved, and I’ll never be the same.

Yet, I still walked away.

Except now I’m injured and my outlook has changed. Priorities have become clear.

And I’m going back to reclaim her…to show her that together we can make the fire between us burst into flames.

***Though Flame is the second book in the Fire on the Mountain Series, it is an interconnected stand alone novel***

Review: Just for Now

Just for Now Just for Now by Abbi Glines
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Oh my. This author always has a way of hooking me into her stories and leave me wanting more. I never want her books to end. Her characters are always flawed to perfection in my opinion. And they always have love that saves them - an all consuming, fantastic love that I could only dream of in life. (ROmance in a book is different than romance in real life and thank you mine is just peachy.) I cannot wait to read even more of these books in this series.

Exclusive Excerpt: Deep sobs raked through my body, recalling how I’d indeed watched the life seep out of Hank and the deep satisfaction it had given me to do so. What kind of person does that? I felt his proximity before I heard him, and in seconds, Colton’s hand came to the base of my shoulder blade where he spread his fingertips wide and glided them upward bit by bit. “Jesus, Paige,” he murmured, barely above a choked whisper. “You’re shaking.” I hated that I had been distancing myself from him, inadvertently hurting him, but I was powerless to stop it. My mind was my worst enemy. I closed my eyes, overcome with shame. Colton had never witnessed one of my shower breakdowns before. I preferred to do them in private. I didn’t want anyone to see me fall apart. Especially not Colton. I wanted to be strong for him. I had my pride. Seconds ticked by before I finally braved spinning around on my heel until I was facing him. Unable to look him in the eyes, I bowed my head and stared at his chest. How do I explain to him that no matter how many times I shower, I still feel dirty because I have blood on my hands? Eddie had made me feel weak when he pointed a gun to my head while kidnapping me before knocking me unconscious. Hank had done so by treating me like I was worthless and disposable, as if my life had no value. It was as though they’d stripped me bare, stolen my confidence and my pride…me. Then, I’d become a monster myself and killed without mercy. So, which one of us is evil? I shook my head, grief-stricken. Nothing made sense to me anymore. Colton gently grasped my chin and lifted my gaze to meet his. A crease formed between his brows, and he frowned at me. Worry and regret clouded his normally bright baby-blue eyes. “Tell me what to do.” Panic filled his voice. “Tell me how I can help you move past this. I will do anything to get rid of that look in those beautiful eyes that I love so much.” The worst part was knowing that I had no answer for him. I felt robbed of my own mind to make the decision of what I needed to heal. My heart was vacant. I was an empty shell, lost and alone, stuck somewhere in my own private hell. “Do you remember when you found out the barn fire was arson and you sent me away?” I broke off at the painful memory, recalling what it had felt like when he pushed me away. I was doing no better now, but I was incapable to stop it. I tried to collect my thoughts on where I was going with this. He winced. “Yes.” His tone was low and full of remorse. “Then, remember you later snuck in my window and asked me to let you hold me”—I swallowed, stifling the urge to cry—“without any questions or explanations?” His shoulders rose and fell. Understanding filled his baby-blue eyes. His arms were already in motion, wrapping around my waist. “Yes,” he answered, pulling me close. “That’s what I need right now. No questions, no judgment…” My voice cracked, and I placed my hands on the center of his chest. “I just need you to hold me.” An overwhelming pain appeared in his features before he tightly hugged me. He nuzzled his nose into my neck, and I could feel his warm breath along my skin. “No one’s judging you, Paige. Please, please don’t be so hard on yourself.” His words sent my heart into a tailspin. I laid my head against his sternum and sobbed uncontrollably. I cried for the lives I’d affected by Hank’s death, mainly his wife and two college-aged children. I silently pleaded for forgiveness for my actions even though it had been self-defense. I prayed my mind would let me let go of this evil head-trip I was currently suffering through and allow me to move forward with my life. I dreamed my life with Colton would return to a normal, simple one. Eventually, I ran out of tears, and my breathing began to level out until I could only hear the water running and the sounds of my and Colton’s breaths as he continued to comfort me. Somewhere along the way, Colton must have adjusted the nozzle because the water temperature had changed. “The water’s warmer,” I stated quietly, wanting to break the silence. My lungs were scratchy and raw from all my crying. “I didn’t want to brave hypothermia.” His lips seemed to curve into a smile, and his hands soothed up and down my sides. “Though, I fear our hot water tank will run empty any minute now, and we’ll be left shivering again.” He shifted fractionally and brought one hand to the base of my chin. As his thumb started to stroke back and forth across my cheek, he gazed into my eyes. An endless array of emotions rippled out of him, matching the intense look in his baby-blue eyes. “You’ve lost your way before, and so have I.” The lonely ache in his voice seized my heart. “And that’s okay. Heartache has a powerful impact on the soul, and we all get lost now and then. But I need you to promise me that you’ll come back to me, Paige, because nothing will keep us apart. I won’t accept anything less than forever with you.” I desperately clung to the feeling of hope he sparked somewhere deep within me, and a genuine small smile spread across my lips at his natural ability to make me swoon with his tender words. “You promise?” For some unknown reason, I needed his reassurance in this moment. He bent forward and kissed the tip of my nose. “I promise.”

Excerpt: Preface I had no real choice. Only one answer was acceptable, yet giving it meant losing everything and anything I cared about. It meant losing Owen, and it meant losing myself. "Daisy?" Owen looked deep into my eyes. "I love you." I didn't think, I didn't question. I crushed my lips against his, needing to soak up his taste and feel. He responded immediately, deepening the kiss as he wrapped me up in his arms. Always and forever. Our promised words swirled through my head. Promised words that couldn't possibly be true. But in that moment it didn't matter. The truth couldn't hurt us. Only time could. About LUST (The Allure Chronicles #2) After years of searching Daisy and Owen have finally found each other, only to face the threat of being forced apart. If they are unable to stop Daisy from becoming an Allure, she will forever lose the ability to love. Desperate to stop the change before time runs out, they must decide what price they are willing to pay to save their love.

My Review of Lust:

I love Daisy and Owen and thought their story is one of true love.  I am wondering how this story was going to continue and now I am anxiously awaiting to see how it concludes.  I am surprised at the ending and cannot wait for it to continue because that will break me if that is the end of their story.

Seductions Kiss

Amazon ** Barnes and Noble ** iTunes ** GooglePlay ** Kobo

About SEDUCTION’S KISS:
Never agree to a road trip to New Orleans with your roommate. At least not when your roommate is dragging you along while she reconnects with an ex-boyfriend. Possible consequences of failing to take my advice: 1) Unknowingly going out with a vampire stripper 2) Getting kidnapped by said vampire's nest mates 3) Falling head over heels for your winged hero Believe it or not number 3 is the worst one, especially when no one believes you that he exists. *Prequel novella to Lure (The Allure Chronicles #1)* LURE

Amazon * Nook * iBooks * Kobo * Google Play

About LURE: There's danger in the beauty... Two years, six months, and twenty-five days. That's how long it had been since I'd seen my winged hero— not that I'd been counting. I'd suffered through years of counseling just to convince my friends and family that I wasn't crazy and knew he didn't exist. But he did. And I was done waiting. Days after college graduation I headed back down to New Orleans to retrace my steps and find Owen again only to find my life was about to get even crazier... thanks to the most beautiful and dangerous of all paranormal creatures, the Allures.

My Review of Lure:

I loved this book!!  I could hardly put this down.  I seriously was thrilled that I had the next one to continue this one with as I could not have imagined not being able to continue.  Owen and Daisy are amazing characters and their connection is hot!!  I love the paranormal aspect of it too.  I cannot wait to see how this story continues and what happens to their amazing story.

Anya Anderson doesn’t just need a big break, she needs any break. Living on the streets doesn’t leave a girl many options, so when she scores a gig reporting on the Seconds to Juliet tour, she jumps at the chance to earn enough money to sleep somewhere safe. And the paycheck will get bigger—and keep her off the streets for good—if she can dig up dirt on Will Fray, the irritatingly hot “shy guy” of the band.

Problem is, Will Fray isn't who everyone thinks he is. In fact, he’s not Will at all. Matt, Will's identical twin, is actually the guy onstage, reluctantly covering for his brother while he’s in rehab. To make matters worse, Matt’s being shadowed by a cute reporter with troubled eyes determined to get the scoop. On him. And he's having trouble finding the willpower to keep his distance…

But if the secret gets out, it won't just be his head on a platter—it’ll be the whole band’s.
This Entangled Teen Crush book contains steamy make out scenes, graphic language, and a love story so hot your copy may spontaneously burst into flames. You’ve been warned.
