Review: My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry

My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrik Backman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Elsa is a 7 year old that is older than her years. She is adorable and believes so strongly in her heroine of her Granny. She is an amazing young lady. There are so many characters that are amazing and so many different aspects of this story that are wonderfully done.I believe this is a definite 4 star book and that as long as you have a good sense of humor and appreciation of a story as complicated and powerful as this one.

Hard Money

Hard Money (Bad Money #3)

There's a new threat in town and he's hell bent on destroying anything between Marcus and Kate as part of his plan. Billy is an old face and along with his return, he brings the hurts and scars from Kate's past, offering them up in a way that leaves her more broken than she thought possible. Jon continues to struggle with his attraction to Kate and his need to remain good, but when things come to the boiling point, he has a decision to make that will change everything.

Hell breaks loose on the streets on New Orleans due to the increased wave of crime and mayhem. Too bad the only ones who could stop the depravity are forced into the center of it and given no choice but to push dark times upon a city under siege. An unlikely hero will emerge, but is he enough?

** Plot is subject to change as my characters are unruly bitches most days of the week. **

This story continues and gets more involved but not more complicated which is good.  It is still an amazing story that alternates between the characters and you get a better feel for each of the characters as the story continues to unfold.  There is very explicit drug and sex in this book but given the genre and the setting/storyline, one would expect it.  It is very well done and I cannot await how this continues.
Kate is softening a bit as she is allowing her feelings to actually be felt (which I love!!).  Jon is starting to be less of a pig-headed jerk who put his job before his life and his heart.  And Marcus is continuing in his understanding that he will not be Kate's everything and he is finding that he is ok with that (or at least he seems to be?)
Overall, another great addition to the story line and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.  A true 5 star story for me.

Review: Cursed

Cursed Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book, but then again it is a Jennifer Armentrout so there was little doubt, right?

I enjoyed the characters and their struggles. Honestly, I really liked how they kind of changed and grew in this story.

“Any other untoward habits I should know about in my future wife?” Future wife. Fuck if he didn’t love the sound of that, especially when it meant that four short weeks from now, Callie would be his. It was a savage thought, but he couldn’t shake it. Or deny exactly how much he wanted it.
“I love old movies.” That brought his attention back around to her, a moth to her flame. She twisted a lock of her blond hair around her finger. “If it has Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, or Audrey Hepburn in it, then I own it and have watched it entirely too many times to admit in public.”
He could see that. There was something about Callie that brought to mind the glamour and grace of actresses from that time period. He took a drink of his whiskey, enjoying the ease of their conversation. It didn’t matter that he’d convinced her to come out tonight in order to stop a war he was beginning to get the feeling there was no way to stop. Hell, he liked her. “I’d like us to be clear on something.”
“This”—he motioned between them—“is a date.”
She gave him a look like she wasn’t sure if he was joking or not. “Okay…”
“Which means that we’re going to eat, and after that, I’m going to walk you to your car.” He leaned forward, crowding her a little. “Then I’m going to kiss you.”
Her eyes went wide. “And if I don’t want you to?”
He didn’t so much as twitch, because she looked like she was torn between bolting and actually liking the idea. He wanted to point out that, reasons for initiating it aside, she’d sure as fuck enjoyed their kiss in the alley. Not to mention the fact that they were getting married in a month, but that wasn’t a threat he was willing to utter. Neither of them had chosen this pairing, no matter how well they seemed to get along right now, and he couldn’t go into this expecting a certain outcome. But he could hope—and he could stack the deck in his favor as much as possible. “Do you?”
“I…” Her mouth opened and then closed, as if reconsidering whatever her knee-jerk reaction had been. “Yes.”
His breath left him in a whoosh. He’d thought she was just as interested as he was, but there was always the risk of miscommunication. No longer. Now he knew exactly where Callie stood. She wanted him, whether she was comfortable with the feeling or not. He took her hand and lifted it to his lips, pressing a kiss to the back of her knuckles. “In that case, I hope you’re hungry, because here comes our food.”

Review: While It Lasts

While It Lasts While It Lasts by Abbi Glines
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This one was really predictable and kind of difficult for me to get into. Cage was the badboy turned good while Eva is the hurting girl who needs to be loved. Very easy read, perhaps too easy. Not as hot as I have come to expect from Abbi Glines. Overall a 3 star rating.

My mouth drops open and I can’t do anything but stare. It’s like seeing a ghost—something you never in your life ever expected to see—and I just can’t look away. I resist the urge to reach down and pinch myself to make sure this moment is real. Is this his idea of some twisted joke? I mean, there’s no way in hell that Jared Kraft is standing in my doorway with a dozen yellow roses after five years without a single word. Shit like that only happens in movies, and my life for damn sure isn’t some glamorous fairy tale. I stand there, staring like an idiot, while my brain tries to work out exactly what’s going on here. I furrow my brow. This has to be a dream. No way this man has the nerve to just show up here like this—not after all this time. I step back and take a long moment to study his face. He looks exactly the same as the last time I saw him, only his hair is longer—more shaggy and unkempt—the style I’ve seen him wear whenever I see pictures of him with his band, Wicked White. To prove to myself that this really is a dream, I reach down and bunch some skin up on my arm and then pinch with all my might. “Ouch!” I yelp as I inspect the flesh my nails dug into. My breath catches the moment I realize that the man who used to be my everything—the man who took off five years ago, leaving me and his family behind without so much as a good-bye or piss off—is standing on my porch. When my eyes meet his, so many questions rage through my mind, but before I can open my mouth to ask a single one, anger begins to boil over inside me. How dare he just come waltzing into my life after all this time? My body reacts of its own accord and my hand darts out to snatch the flowers out of his hand. His eyes grow wider when I slam them down onto my porch and then smack his face as hard as I can.

My review:

I liked this book.  Did I love this one?  No, but I just did not connect with the characters as I had hoped I would.  It was hot and it was a good read with good writing.  But to me, it was an average read.  With that said, I did give it a 3-1/2 star rating as opposed to the 3 because it did have good plot and was fun to read.

Review: The Girlfriend Request

The Girlfriend Request The Girlfriend Request by Jodie Andrefski
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was ok. A bit on the predictable side, and a bit on the unrealistic side. Forgiveness happened way to easily, but the story seemed to drag at times.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Review: Finding It

This was a good one. I felt that it drug on a bit from time to time. And the major plot twist was pretty easy to spot. But overall a good book to listen to.

Review: Dirty Money

Dirty Money Dirty Money by Ali Parker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really like this series. At first, I wasn't really sure, but despite my aversion to the drug related issues, I really do like it. The chemistry between the characters is hot and the underlying protecting behaviors is what I love in a good story. I cannot wait to see what happens next with Kate, Jon and Marcus. I have to say that normally I would mark down a lot for cliffhanger ending, but it worked so well and makes me just eagerly awaiting the next installment. Ali Parker wrote this very well and developed some pretty different characters for me to keep thinking about even 12 hours later.

Review: Faking It

Faking It Faking It by Cora Carmack
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really like Cora's way of writing and the alternating perspectives. I really like the way that they fought the relationship as they were both worried about the outcomes, yet knew that they really wanted to be together. I also loved the backstories. Amazing. Love this series and can't wait to finish the next.

Review: Whatever It Takes

Whatever It Takes Whatever It Takes by L.E. Bross
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I would give this one a 3-1/2 star rating. I admit to being ok with the story but felt a bit bored at times. I would recommend this to those that really want a romance that they do not need to overthink about.

About Not Without You, Impossible Love #3:
Image result for not without you cover
Falling in love was the easy part …

Noah and Tabby’s love story wasn’t typical … or particularly romantic. After all, he picked her up at a bar – or maybe she picked him up. Either way, he saw her naked before he even knew her name.

Tabby came to him broken, but determined. And Noah knew how to fix her. It was a meeting of the bodies. A retraining of the mind. A connection that soon infected the heart.

But after two years, Noah’s old tricks aren’t working, and Tabby is shutting down again. This time, he refuses to play games. He wants all of her, or nothing at all.

Not Without You returns to the eclectic neighborhood where Noah and Tabby met, and where they are now discovering that life doesn’t get easier after you leave campus. What began as a sweet story of love and redemption, turns into something dark, intense … and, at times, disturbing. And if they’re not careful, it will destroy them both.

*Not recommended for readers under 18
