Review: More Than Once

More Than Once More Than Once by Elizabeth Briggs
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a very quick read and honestly just an ok read. Yes there was heat in the writing, but the connection between the characters were just ok. Nothing too special for me. If you are looking for a steamy quick read, then this one is just right for you. (And honestly, who doesn't need that every once in a while?) A solid 3 star rating.

Review: Forgetting August

Forgetting August Forgetting August by J.L. Berg
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Predictable but slightly thrilling. August and Everly are an interesting combo. Honestly, I am not one to put spoilers in, but if I did, this review/one sided discussion would be a lot longer. Still not sure about the Ryan character or Sarah for that matter

Review: Room

Room Room by Emma Donoghue
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have noticed a trend that I have not been catching up on my books that are going into movies beforehand. And this irritates me as I used to pride myself on it. So at the urging of a friend, I read this one before the movie and the temptation to see it right away. I saw a clip on the filming and this peeked my interest.
So when I began reading I understood right away the plot as it is not something new, honestly. This was written with an overwhelming sense of love for this child and the preservation of this child's innocence and well-being. But, I have to say that the style of the writing was irritating enough for me to become frustrated at times. I felt that yes, he would be a bit younger in his phraseology. But on the same hand, he would not as sheltered with some of his words as he did watch TV and let's face it, Sponge Bob and Dora do speak quite well for their audience level. And the mom seemed to be a truly sheltered girl who was supposedly in college when this came about. Her mom and dad irritated me but I understood that those would be normal reactions to this news.
Overall, I would give this a 4 star rating as it was well done, despite my issues with it. Now, I cannot wait to see how it gets portrayed on the big screen.

Portrait of beautiful blond girl with glowing candle in hands on dark background, praying on Christmas time, traditional Christian holiday     About KISS THE FLAME: In a standalone novella that combines the worlds of THE FLAME and his novel, THE SURRENDER GATE, New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice returns you to a mysterious candle shop in the New Orleans French Quarter where the scents of passion provide the courage to embrace your heart's desire. Are some risks worth taking? Laney Foley is the first woman from her hard working family to attend college. That's why she can't act on her powerful attraction to one of the gorgeous teaching assistants in her Introduction to Art History course. Getting involved with a man who has control over her final grade is just too risky. But ever since he first laid eyes on her, Michael Brouchard seems to think about little else but the two of them together. And it's become harder for Laney to ignore his intelligence and his charm. During a walk through the French Quarter, an intoxicating scent that reminds Laney of her not-so-secret admirer draws her into an elegant scented candle shop. The shop's charming and mysterious owner seems to have stepped out of another time, and he offers Laney a gift that could break down the walls of her fear in a way that can only be described as magic. But will she accept it? Light this flame at the scene of your greatest passion and all your desires will be yours... Lilliane Williams is a radiant, a supernatural being with the power to make your deepest sexual fantasy take shape around you with just a gentle press of her lips to yours. But her gifts came at a price. Decades ago, she set foot inside what she thought was an ordinary scented candle shop in the French Quarter. When she resisted the magical gift offered to her inside, Lilliane was endowed with eternal youth and startling supernatural powers, but the ability to experience and receive romantic love was removed from her forever. When Lilliane meets a young woman who seems poised to make the same mistake she did years before, she becomes determined to stop her, but that will mean revealing her truth to a stranger. Will Lilliane's story provide Laney with the courage she needs to open her heart to the kind of true love only magic can reveal?   Kiss the Flame - Tour - Teaser 2

I really enjoyed the spooky aspect of this novella.  I also enjoyed the forbidden romance aspect.  It was hot and it was done well.   I mean, one could easily have taken the naughty path in this story line, but it was done well.  I would give this a 3-1/2 star rating.  Quick hot read - I mean come on people, we all need these from time to time right?

Review: Trusting Liam

Trusting Liam Trusting Liam by Molly McAdams
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I love Molly McAdams. But I had a problem with this story. I was bored. And it pains me to say that as I do love her writing. I really do! And her characters are always very well developed and I love them. But not so much with these ones. Ugh and that hurts. They were well developed, but a bit confusing honestly. Kennedy and Liam are just an odd mix for me and I could not get past it. And then throw in the drama and the hot tempered weirdos in the family, it all seemed off. Wish I could have liked this one a lot more than three stars worth.

Review: Bad for You

Bad for You Bad for You by Abbi Glines
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Every time I think I will be able to put down an Abbi Glines book, I am so wrong! I love this story - might be my fave in this series actually!!

Krit is a rocker with an edge as one would expect. I love his little terms and the amazing bod he has in my mind. And shall we discuss the piercings?!?!

Blythe is an innocent damaged girl that needs to know how pretty she is inside and out.

Amazing chemistry!!! Amazing characters!! AMAZING Story!!!!

Thanks Abbi for yet another fave book of the week!!!! A definite 5 star for me (but you couldn't tell that could you?)

Review: The 19th Wife

The 19th Wife The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I wanted to enjoy this book more but in the age when we have so many options to read, it is hard to focus attention on books that make you fall asleep or get distracted by actually cleaning. Yep, I would rather vacuum instead of read this one. Frightening! As someone who has family who are Mormon, I often wondered about the separation of the church and how that really went on instead of the Hollywood-ized version many of us know to be fact. But I seem to feel that a lot of what was presented as fact in this book may not truly be. I am not saying it isn't, but it just doesn't seem right. I wanted to be more invested in the story and the characters, but honestly felt them to be so obscure that they were not relatable in any way. So, that was an issue that I just could not seem to get past. I know my book club will have plenty to say about this one, but seriously, I just wanted to be over and done with this one and move onto something enjoyable and fun.

Review: As I Am

As I Am As I Am by AnnaLisa Grant
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked the concept of this story a bit more than I actually enjoyed this book. I found it to be dragging in spots and frustrating at times. I felt strongly that she should have been able to see through Cal's transparency and Addy's controlling nature, like others did. It made me want to shake people that did not help her to see her for who she truly was - an adorable sweet girl that was beautiful inside and out. Miller had baggage - more baggage than one should have at that age. But all in all, he had the best of intentions and his feelings for her were true. I gave this a 3 star rating. Excellent concept, but an okay read.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
