SAVOR is a New Adult Paranormal Romance and the fourth book in The Empire Chronicles Series. SAVOR will be releasing April 30, 2015.

About SAVOR:

Jared is Vera's perfect man—until he opens his mouth. An incredible body and set of wings can only go so far when everything he says seems designed to make her mad. Still, she can't deny her intense attraction or the fact that he is the closest thing she has to a friend.

Jared doesn't go for bear shifters, especially ones that are related to his ex, but he can't resist Vera's charm or the way she understands him better than anyone else.

As suspicions build and loyalties are tested, Vera and Jared realize that they may not be able to trust anyone but each other.

SAVOR Excerpt:

Savor (The Empire Chronicles #4)
Alyssa Rose Ivy
“I’m glad you don’t want me dead.” He smirked. Even his smirk was sexy.
“I’d be on my own if you were.” I put my hands behind my head.
“And you don’t like being alone?” He studied me in the darkness. Sometimes I wished neither of us had night vision. It left you so naked, never having an opportunity to hide.
“I do most of the time.”
“But not always?” His eyes raked over my body. The fact that he could make such a platonic conversation feel sexual gave me even more reason to resist him.
“Why does it matter?” Often the best way to avoid a question is to ask your own.
“It matters because I asked it.” And there went his mouth again.
My annoyance gave me back my will power. “Put a shirt on.”
“Why?” He grinned. “Am I distracting you?”
“No, but we should go. The sun will be up soon enough.”
“Maybe I shouldn’t go with you.” He sat up, swinging his legs off the side of the bed.
“No way.” I moved to standing. “You’re not backing out.”
“Why do you care?” He stood with his back to me. “You can do this alone.”
“Of course I can.”
He turned to me. “Then why does it matter if I go my own way?” He pulled on his t-shirt, and a little part of me missed the view.
“Because we agreed to help each other out. I stick to my promises.” That was one of my good traits. The not so good traits weren’t worth reflecting on.
“Maybe I don’t.”
“You do.” I put a hand on my hip. I didn’t have time for Jared’s games.
“How do you know?”
“I just do.”
“You’re infuriating.”
I groaned. “And what are you?”
If I’d had liquid in my mouth I would have spit it out. “Not exactly the word I’d use to describe you.”
“Says the girl begging me to stay with her.”
“I never begged.” I crossed my arms over my chest.
“Would you beg?” His grin was his undoing.
“Is that how you like it, Jared? With your women begging?”
“I wasn’t talking about how I like my women.”
“Are you sure about that?” I grabbed my backpack and headed into the cabin’s small bathroom.
“Where are you going?”
I paused with my hand on the door. “To shower.”

My Review:

Honestly, I thought I could enjoy this one more than I did but I believe it is reflection on me not the book. I kept thinking about the actual transformation of person into bear that I could not focus on the actual story. Perhaps this side of paranormal is no longer my interest. That being said, by the time I figured out my issues,  I was about 1/3 of the way in. I switched my focus and ignored that aspect, focusing on the relationship between Jared and Vera. That being the focus of my review - it was a good book. I enjoyed their exchanges and their chemistry. All in all, based on that I would give it a 3 star rating.

Special Announcement: Cora Carmack!! Cannot wait!

Fans of Cora Carmack’s Rusk University, we have a SUPER exciting announcement:

  ALL CLOSED OFF Coming 2016

ALL CLOSED OFF, Book 4 in the Rusk University Series, is coming!!!

Check out this message from Cora!

*WARNING: This letter contains spoilers for All Broke Down. If you haven't yet read that book, read at your own peril. SECOND WARNING: this letter talks about fictional characters as if they are real people. Sorry I'm not sorry. THIRD WARNING: The letter below broaches a serious topic that could be a trigger for some people*

Hello beloved readers! The first person who read one of my Rusk University books was my older sister. I gave her All Lined Up when I finished, and her first question was "Are Ryan and Stella going to be together?" At the time, I told her no. I had plans for both of them that included their own storylines. I thought they were too much alike. They'd make great friends. They might even hook-up, but in the end... I couldn't envision anything serious for them. So I actually rewrote some of their scenes trying to make that aspect of their connection more obvious. And still, when All Lined Up released, amidst the chatter about sweet Carson and sassy Dallas, I had people asking if Stella and Ryan were next. I denied it again (and again and again). But sometimes in writing, the stars align and a character will become bigger and more real than you could have possibly imagined. It's a wonderful experience, but in Stella's case it was also incredibly heartbreaking. While I was writing All Broke Down, the news was inundated with information about the Steubenville rape trial and other tragedies and injustices like it. Tragedies where women have been violated first by an attacker, then by judgmental and hateful people, and finally by a justice system that repeatedly fails survivors of sexual assault. Having grown up in Texas, where too often football stars are treated like gods and can get away with just about anything, it hit particularly close to home. And since All Broke Down featured a passionate activist heroine, I felt compelled to reference this chronic dark underbelly of elite sports. I can remember vividly sitting on my couch, brainstorming how I would incorporate such an event into the book. I had thought the assault would happen to an unknown character, and maybe I would focus on the way it divided the team and the school and the town. But like I said... Sometimes a character will become bigger and more human than I anticipated. And it sounds crazy, but in my mind, I felt Stella push her way forward and say, "Mine. This is my story." I immediately began to cry. Sob, really. Because I loved her as a character. She was hilarious and strong and didn't take crap from anyone. She was everything I always hope to be. And I didn't want her to go through that. Even as I cried, my brain began to tell me that it made sense. Stella was vibrant and enjoyed a wild party. She was not afraid of her sexuality, and she had no problem with casual sex. She was the kind of girl that probably had a reputation. The kind of girl who could be heinously and violently taken advantage of, and people would STILL blame her. Because she was in the wrong place, wearing the wrong clothes, behaving in the wrong way. But just because it COULD happen to her, didn't mean I wanted it to. But once again, Stella was there in my head saying, "Someone needs to tell this story. And I'm strong enough to do it. Let me." And when Stella chose her story, she also chose the man I'd been adamant wasn't right for her. Because as it turns out... Those two characters who I thought were too alike aren't so alike anymore. And Stella needs Ryan to help her hold on to that vibrant and strong girl she was before. So I let go of all the plans I had for her, and allowed her to tell me her story, which is about more than just sexual assault. It's about the aftermath. Depression. Shame. Guilt. Anger. Injustice. Victim-blaming. Slut-shaming. It's about the way that kind of event can change everything-- how you relate to people, how you think, how you dream, how you love. It's about the way the rest of the world moves on to the next big tragedy, and you're still left holding the broken pieces of who you used to be, with no idea how to put them together again or even if you want to. It will be the most difficult story I ever tell. And the most important. Because it’s a story that belongs not just to Stella, but to millions of people around the world. It’s a story that belongs to a new person every 107 seconds*. And that’s just in the United States. Think about that for a moment. 107 seconds. Stella’s story won’t be any easier to read than it will be to write. But I hope you’ll help me drag this story into the light. So now I’ll step off my soapbox and just tell you about the book… ALL CLOSED OFF: Stella Santos is fine. Maybe something terrible happened to her that she can’t even remember. And maybe it drives her crazy when her friends treat her like she’s on the verge of breaking because of it. Maybe it feels even worse when they do what she asks and pretend that it never happened at all. And maybe she’s been getting harassing emails and messages for months from people who don’t even know her, but hate her all the same. But none of that matters because she’s just fine. For Ryan Blake, Stella was always that girl. Vibrant and hilarious and beautiful. He wanted her as his best friend. His more than friends. His everything and anything that she would give him. Which these days is a whole lot of nothing. She gets angry when he’s there. Angry when he’s not there. Angry when he tries to talk and when he doesn’t. When Stella devises an unconventional art project for one of her classes all about exploring intimacy—between both friends and strangers—Ryan finds himself stepping in as guinea pig after one of her subjects bails. What was supposed to be an objective and artistic look at emotion and secrets and sex suddenly becomes much more personal. When he hits it off with another girl from the project, Stella will have to decide if she’s willing to do more than make art about intimacy. To keep him, she’ll have to open up and let herself be the one thing she swore she’d never be again. Vulnerable. ***** ALL CLOSED OFF will be releasing sometime in early 2016. I don't have a date yet for several reasons. The first and most important, is that I want to do this story justice. And as such, I have no intentions of rushing the process. Secondly, I'll be returning to indie publishing for the remainder of the Rusk series. As you can probably tell, this story means a great deal to me. And by having the ultimate control over everything from timing to editing to price, I'll be able to ensure that I'm able to create exactly the story I envision. Unfortunately, that means you won't be seeing the paperback of ALL CLOSED OFF on the shelves in most stores. Nor is it currently available for pre-order. But I hope you'll add the book on goodreads, follow me on social media, and/or join my newsletter. I promise to shout it all over the place when I have a set release date or pre-order links. Thank you for listening as I told you the evolution of Stella's story. When it's finished, I hope you will feel as passionately about it as I do. All my best, Cora Carmack   *Statistic from RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network)   #WhenitHappened banner

And an opportunity to add your voice to Stella’s…

Stella’s experience is only one story of many. She was with someone she trusted when it happened, and the only memories she has are pieced together from her own blurred recollections and the things people have told her. Not everyone’s experience with sexual assault is the same. Each person reacts, copes, and overcomes differently. And while this book is about one specific character’s journey, I would like to tell as many sides of this story as possible. As Stella grapples with her thoughts and emotions she’ll be searching for advice, for comfort, for a place where people understand her and can identify with what she’s experiencing. There will be room for truth within the fiction, and if you’d like that truth to be yours, this is your chance. If you have a story like Stella’s, and you want your voice to be heard…. If there’s something you wish more people understood about what you’ve gone through…. If there’s something you’d like to tell people struggling with a story like yours… I’d like to give you the opportunity to add your voice to Stella’s. Use the hashtag #WhenItHappened and let your voice be heard on your own by posting on your own social media, or if you’d rather I share your words fill out this google document and tell me your story. You can fill out this form anonymously or not. I’d like to begin this discussion now because April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. But my hope is to include as many stories as possible within the book itself. So many have stories of #WhenItHappened. Your voice and your story deserve to be heard. I’m listening. #WhenItHappened Google Form:   HeadshotABOUT Cora Carmack: Cora Carmack is a twenty-something New York Times bestselling author who likes to write about twenty-something characters. Review: Beautiful Collision

Beautiful Collision
Beautiful Collision by Toni Vallan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

At first, I would get confused by the variety of characters in this story. But then I was a 1/3 of the way through, and I was all the way into the story. The remarkabe way the flashbacks interacted with the story of today was what held my interest. I was intrigued by what had happened to make her be the person she was now. And then the twists at the end, made me really excited to see where this story will go. I felt that the twist at the end, was understandable and was shocked at myself for not seeing it coming. Cannot wait for the next book to be published!!

Review: Days Like This

Days Like This
Days Like This by Danielle Ellison

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This was a quick read for me - one afternoon. But it was a bit more irritating than I prefer. I do not like when people are uneducated about certain things -like mental illness. I felt all along that none of the characters truly understood the bipolar disease. Yes they understood how it was to live with someone with it, but it was treated pretty lightly and without a better understanding. And that frustrates me. The romance or love story was a bit far fetched in my opinion. Girl leaves boy for no apparent reason so boy is broken. Girl retruns and all is forgiven?! A little too easy honestly. Iusually try to find the good in a book - but here, I was more frustrated by the irritating qualities then liked anything about it.

Beyond these Walls

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00074]

Happily ever after.

That was what we were supposed to have.

Pudding cups, sandy toes and a lifetime of making each and every one of our dreams come true—that is the future I’d promised her.

I could see it in my dreams, hold it in my hands, but then I watched as all of our hopes and wishes suddenly slipped through my fingers like sand.

I thought the worst was behind us, but what if we’d just delayed the inevitable?

They say love can overcome any obstacle. But can it survive death?

The breathtaking love story of Lailah and Jude concludes in Beyond These Walls.
My Review:
I was blown away by this story. I enjoyed the characters immensely. I was immediately attached to Lailah in book #1. And now that her health situation has changed up a bit, I am still attached. I also love how much Jude loves her. It isn't that he wants to protect her and keep her safe from all things health related, it is how much he feels that she is his and needs his protection from all things that makes it amazing. To me of course, some may not like that as much.

I could not stop reading this duo of books and therefore, that rates it high for me. And since it has been 4 days since I finished and I am still thinking about it, that deserves more recognition. A four star book here.

TWH_Teaser1 BOOK BLURB: A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint... Some lines are meant to be crossed... One explosive device was all it took to turn Holt Cunningham from ass-kicking Marine to IT technician. Hell, he's still not over it. So when the cute little strawberry blonde at the bar asks him to kiss her, Holt can't resist the temptation of a sexy distraction. Before he knows it, she's blown his mind...and then skipped out the next morning. Lydia Thomas never expected things with Holt to go quite that far, but oh, it was worth it. After being far too good for way too long, she was ready to be bad. Except that there's that tiny detail that Lydia kept to herself-Holt just spent the night doing naughty things...with his best friend's little sister. One night isn't nearly enough. But with his friendship on the line, how far will Holt go in order to claim what's his?

My Review:

I liked this one.  Definitely a hot one - no doubt about that at all.  I mean it starts off hot and ends that way as well.  Fairly predictable story line, but not in an irritating way at all.  I liked Lydia's naivety yet her determination that she knew what and whom she wanted and nothing would get in her way when it came to that.  I also liked Holt's all consuming love for her even when he did not want to admit it.
Overall, a solid 3 star book.  Nothing exceptionally amazing about it but nothing wrong with it either.  A great super HOT beach read if I ever read one.  (And yes, I have read them and will do so this summer!)

A Match Made on Main Street

Anna Madison has faithfully avoided her old flame for six years, even though their Main Street restaurants are only a few blocks apart. The sting of his rejection was enough to make her swear off dating for good, but when her successful restaurant is damaged in a fire, she's left to the mercy of the one man she's spent years proving she doesn't need...and convincing herself she doesn't want. Mark Hastings can't say he's happy being alone, but at least his heart is safe. Burnt out from running the Briar Creek diner, he's ready for a change. He tells himself he's just being neighborly by letting Anna use his kitchen, but being by her side again stirs up temptations he might not be able to resist a second time around.

“Top 5 Favorite songs of all time”

In no particular order, and very hard to choose, I might add:
1. “Love Story” (Francis Lai)
2. “Think of Me” (Andrew Lloyd Webber)
3. “Someone Like You” (Adele)
4. “Uptown Girl” (Billy Joel - a childhood favorite!)
5. “Sounds of Silence” (Simon & Garfunkel)

I felt that this was an okay book.  Nothing that rocked my world or had me thinking endlessly about it afterward.  The characters are just fine - nothing swoon worthy in my opinion.  It seemed like an awful lot of build up to an unrealistic immediate happy ever after.  But perhaps sometimes that is just what you need.
I gave this one a 3 star rating as it wasn't horrible but it was just average.

Review: Deceived

Deceived by L.A. Starkey

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have to say that I was a bit torn as to my rating on this one. So let me explain.
I was a bit confused at the beginning - it felt a bit like work remembering who was who and when they were from, etc. But about a third of the way through, I could not stop reading. And by the time I reached the halfway point, I was confused as to why none of the people had read it at the family gathering I was at.
I am not one who reads Greek Gods books, but I understand their appeal after reading this.
Sam is an amazing character that I felt a connection to immediately. Marcus, Nick, Ken, and Brent all are complex and intriguing.
So I need to stop my review to begin my reading of book 2 because I cannot wait til morning!

The Light - Equilibrium Book 2

Title: The Light – Equilibrium II
Author: Kate Thomas
Publication Date: May 26, 2015

With the truth of Ellie’s place among the Balance Keepers finally coming to light, training now begins. She must learn to harness the powers that are growing within her, some spiraling out of control. Confusion and frustration become her constant companions, as her search for answers does nothing but push her further from the man she’s come to love.
David is The Light, the speaker of truth, the whisperer of good in the world. His desire for more than he can have with his new apprentice tears at the fabric of his own stability, bit by bit. He knows what the future holds — and just how damning it will be for Ellie if she’s not prepared to handle it — but he’s forbidden to help.
As tragedy becomes reality, will she reach for The Light, or run into the soothing arms of The Darkness?

After I completed The Core, I felt anxious and nervous.  What would happen in book 2?  What didn't happen in Book 2?!

The Light is another amazing 5 star book by Kate Thomas.  It picks right up where the first book ends.  Ellie returns to New York from L. A. where she was on a business trip with David.  You get explore the relationship between David and Ellie more as well as Victor's relationship with Ellie and her relationship with her brother.  There are a bunch of interactions between all the characters that twist and turn the stories.
Honestly, I have been a bit disappointed lately in the books I had been reading.  Fairly predictable with plot lines that are consistently done over and over again.

I was so excited when I read The Core that I was kept on my toes.  And then The Light is no slacker in that capacity.  I was literally saying out loud "Wait?!  Did that really just happen?  It really said that?"  Amazing.
And the fact that her family back story gets more twisty, edgy, and shocking is the best facet for me.  It could have been a bit more cut and dry I suppose to avoid those feelings(BORING), but Kate Thomas handled this exactly as one would hope it would be handled.

So wrapping up - it was an amazingly fantastic book that deserves a 5 star rating.  (I mean any book that takes me away from my daily household duties is basically a hero in life.)  But one that does it without me even noticing is even better.
And a special shout out to Kate Thomas (AKA Laurie Starkey) as I was given this wonderful book in exchange for a fair and honest review.  I truly did a happy dance upon receiving it.

The Core - Equilibrium Book 1

There’s something strange about David, something that goes beyond the way he makes Ellie feel. He’s wealthy, poised, and a complete enigma. With nothing to lose but her heart, Ellie goes in search of the truth — a search that leads her down an eye-opening path that reveals secrets about the world she thought she knew.
The world’s order is held in careful balance, the essence of good and evil tilting the scale. When the fabric of reality is stripped away, Ellie is forced to make a decision to follow the path David’s constructed before her or simply walk away. The Core is missing and someone must step up and stand between the light and darkness, holding each back and maintaining equilibrium.

Some how I was able to acquaint myself with an amazing writer.  She writes terrifically well and has this amazing gift to share with us all.  And once I started reading, I have to tell you, I really cannot put her books down!  So when I was asked to do her cover reveal for book 2 in this series earlier this month, it was easy for me to say yes! But I was scheduled to read others before I could read for me so this one was on my TBR pile at the very top.  And once I finished the others, I started this one.  LUCKY ME!!!

My Review:
Ok, it starts off with a shocker weirdness that I have to say confused me and confounded me.  I also got hooked right away.  I mean, really, everything in my gut was yelling at her to back off and to run for the hills.  But amazingly, she did not listen to my inner voice - even though it was strong enough for my kids to remind me it was a book. Ellie feels very connected to David and she cannot figure out why, until their special trip.  And then everything she knows and has believed, is altered and she is forced to make that choice between staying and doing or walking away and wondering.  I was immediately drawn into this book as the characters are so different and unique.  I felt that they all had totally different personailities and that somehow they were all very intermixed with each other to totally balance the others.  I am very intrigued to see where this story goes from here.  I am excited to figure out who becomes the Core and what that means for the others.  And also to see where David and Ellie's connection goes and why it is so strong.  This a 5 star book in my opinion, because if my day job and family weren't the priority they are, I would have not stopped reading til I reached the end.  I mean as it was I finished in 2 days but I had to work and kiddos have activities.  Cannot wait for Book 2 next month!!

Under the Influence

I loved you once. A love I thought irrevocable. A love I mistakenly believed could transcend both time and circumstance. Under the influence of my dimwitted, na├»ve, traitorous heart, I became intoxicated with what I now know was simply a figment of my self-indulgent imagination. So drunk on the feeling, I couldn’t see what was right in front of my face. So foolishly enamored, I blindly followed my heart into the depths of an emotion that would ravage me.

Years later, I know now what I wish I knew then. I am stronger. Smarter. Tougher. I will not allow myself to be broken again.
I loved you.
I raged for you.
I wept for you.
And now, I’m letting you go.

Author’s Note:  Under the Influence is the journey of two childhood friends that spans the course of five pivotal years in their lives. It is a story about their discovery of true friendship as it blossoms into first love, their experience of crucial sacrifice and ultimate betrayal, and their endurance of agonizing heartbreak on the way to finding lasting redemption.

Spencer POV:
Cassie maintains her wide smile. You go on a date and I guarantee what you find regarding Dalton and his feelings will surprise you.
Cassie. No one wants to go out on a date with me. Trust me.
She shakes her head before she busts out laughing. The ridiculous sound of it reverberates around my room. You really have no idea, do you? Every guy at school has a hard-on for you, you fool. Theyre fucking scared to come within even ten feet of you because of Dalton. He let it be known that if they did, he would deal with them.
Oh my God! You have no idea what youre talking about! Im laughing outright now. She really has lost her mind.
She shakes her head, the severity of her statement tightening her features. Im totally serious, Spence. I swear on my Kindle.
At this, I take a sharp breath and sober immediately. To Cassie, her Kindle is sacred as the Bible.
She nods slowly, dramatically, as she watches me grasp the meaning of her statement. Right hand raised, she states, On the over-abundance of trashy romance novels within my possession, I solemnly swear that before Dalton graduated, he straight-up took out a vendetta against any male in our school who dares approach you.
He did what?! I screech, pressing myself off the bed and catapulting into upright position.
Anger ignites and my face heats wildly as realization dawns.
This whole year, in fact, the entire four years of high school, no one has looked at me. No one has asked me to come to parties, to go on dates, to go to prom. Not that I would go, but it would be nice to be asked, you know? Okay, I probably would go. I mean, its a rite of passage, right?
Two black painted fingernails make their appearance as they snap directly in front of my face, jolting me out of my inner thoughts.
Hooker! Pay attention!
I shake my head and refocus. Still seething, I whisper, This whole time, I thought it was me. That I wasnt dating material or pretty enough. Four years, Cass. Four years of feeling like I wasnt good enough. My molars grind together. It all makes sense now.
She waves her hand dismissively. Were getting off track here.
My eyes bulge as she continues, “I have found someone who, luckily for you, seems to have recently acquired a death wish.”

Spring Fling Blog Hop

I was asked to participate in this amazing blog hop.

The theme was the book you would do anything for.  And I began to debate things in my head.  I mean, I am a pretty transparent girl.  If I like a book, people know about it.  I have even gone to buying copies for others when I see them as I think all people should have them.  And that was when I realized that I had bought 3 copies of this book in the past year and gave them to others to read it.  And to the love of this book and series, I am completely indebted to my Aunt Mary.  She has instilled in me from the moment I became a part of her family an appreciation for books.  She shares so completely and wholeheartedly her books, that I will forever be indebted to her.  She is an amazing overall person - mom, grandma, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, cousin, teacher, etc.  She has reached so many people, I always smile when people mention her name and they do too.

She once gave me a bag of books telling me that she would love to share any of her books with me - but I needed to be honest with her.  If I did not like that book or genre, I had to tell her.  Lucky for me, we have some similar interests there and it was easy.  Then she handed me an incredibly thick book.  I hadn't looked at a book like that since school.  She told me it looked daunting, but it was easily a fave for her.  So I gave it a try.  And boy am I glad I did.  She then shared the rest with me.  Now, we eagerly await the very thick books releases whenever they are given to us.  And to think that one time, I was able to meet this author with another amazing aunt I received via this amazing marriage I have.  Another aunt who loves books as much as I do!  Whereas this book is not my Aunt Debbie's cup of tea, she happily came with (along with a great cousin!) and sat for the author talk.  AMAZING!!!

So drum roll . . . .  Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

Perhaps, it sounds cliche given the tv show that is out right now, but my handsome husband reminded me that it was suppose to be a book that I would do anything for.  And this is definitely it.  I have re-read the book about 5 times now.  And re-read the others (or more so parts of them) at least a handful.  I am obsessed with the romance and love of Jamie and Claire.  And I know there are parts that are not for everyone.  The fact that in actuality she is already married when she weds Jamie is a sticker for some.  Or the brutality of the Scottish Highlands.  But overall, I can not get enough of this story line.  I always get the next installment as soon as I can and then read it right away.

So for Christmas I made my Aunt Mary the Outlander cowl from the TV show and I am currently knitting myself some of those fingerless gloves that Claire wears.  Why?  Well, honestly to use my yarn stash as well as bring a little more Outlander into my life.  Cheesy?  Yes, but if you know me, then you know that is what I am!!
